Local businesses. Real stories. Practical ways to grow.
NC Local Business, a Joyful Evolver project
I’m Lauren Dillon, the founder of Joyful Evolver and the creator of NC Local Business.
Based in Winston-Salem, I built this community resource to help people discover independent North Carolina businesses—and get to know the owners and expertise behind them.
Through business features and owner interviews, we share the stories that a business name, star rating, or directory listing can’t tell on its own.
Helping local owners decide what comes next
My work goes beyond publishing business stories. Through Joyful Evolver, I help local business owners understand what deserves attention before spending more on marketing.
Some projects help you share your expertise. Others help you compare your review presence with nearby competitors or make it easier for locals to leave feedback.
The goal is practical: understand your options, choose your next step, and put useful ideas to work.
Two ways to share your business story
For North Carolina businesses
NC Local Business offers a free business feature, with optional premium upgrades for owners who want a more detailed feature and additional distribution.
For businesses anywhere
The Spotlight is our broader Joyful Evolver project, featuring business owners, their expertise, and the stories behind their work. You don’t need to be located in North Carolina to participate.
Want help increasing online exposure for your business?
Joyful Evolver is where I share education, tools, and projects you can use yourself or with your team.
When you want help putting improvements into practice, just connect with me to talk about getting ongoing services and support from my team.
You’re welcome to start with a feature, explore a tool, or simply follow what I’m building.
